SSEMC Wins Project Habitat® Award

Snapping Shoals EMC has received an Honorable Mention Award recognizing our efforts to restore and maintain wildlife habitats. The award was given by Project Habitat, a wildlife enhancement program sponsored by BASF Corp.

Snapping Shoals received Honorable Mention in the Community Outreach category for our implementation of vegetation management programs that greatly enhance opportunities for wildlife and for our work with our local communities to benefit wildlife.

“We congratulate Snapping Shoals EMC for its efforts to be among the very best in the nation at meeting the needs of wildlife and the local community,” said Randy Canady of BASF.

Jennifer DuBose, representing BASF’s Project Habitat, presented the award to Doug Parker and Jimmy Smith of Snapping Shoals EMC.

As part of our Project Habitat efforts, Snapping Shoals has established partnerships with the Georgia FFA/ FCCLA Center, Bert Adams Boy Scout Camp and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Non-Game Wildlife Program. We have modified our right-of-way vegetation management programs to reduce mowing and allow native plant species to proliferate. We have also established wildflower and wildlife food plots, begun developing bluebird trails and helped erect osprey nesting platforms.

BASF’s Project Habitat Awards Program recognizes and encourages electric utilities that excel at wildlife habitat preservation. BASF is one of the nation’s top suppliers of vegetation management products.
