In attendance: Tim Beale, Mark Dennis, Ricky Dockery, Mark Heffley,

Shirts
Mark Heffley distributed shirts for Board Members to wear at conference.
Board Members voted on conference registration gift – blue
golf shirt/polo with gray collar.
Team V Update
Board Members discussed the possibility of using Team V Services
for a one-day strategic planning session for $750.00, to discuss
purpose, growth and marketing of GVMA.
Action Item: John Raese will check with Jimmy
Hill on cost of one-day strategic planning session.
Legal
Issues
Werner Kralick reported on his discussion with attorney. Concerns
included liability involved with being a non-profit organization
and insurance issues.
Action Item: Werner Kralick will arrange meeting with
attorney and Board Members to discuss insurance/liability concerns.
Action Item: Darrell Russell with arrange meeting with accountant
and Board Members to discuss audit procedures.
Treasure’s Report
Dan McMillan reported GVMA balance to date, $12990.40.
Scholarship
Darrell Russell suggested an internship program for a college student
interested in the field, rather than a scholarship.
Warner Kralick suggested notifying ABAC of scholarship, and let
college choose recipient.
Ricky Dockery provided handout including Amicalola EMC’s procedures/applications
for scholarship.
Jekyll 4-H Center
Update
John Raese and Mark Heffley suggested:
• Use 4-H Center’s field for equipment demo from 2:00
– 4:00 PM ($100)
• 2 tours at 2:00 PM and 2 tours at 3:00 PM = 150 people total
($5 per person)
• Use 4-H Center’s buses to shuttle participants from
1:00 – 5:00 PM ($105)
• Approximate total cost = $805
• Donate $1200 to 4-H Center, present check and possibly get
recognition/photo in local newspaper
• Coordinate donation around Arbor Day in February
Action Item: Mark Heffley will reserve state park.
Conference Spouse Program
Mark Heffley reported on spouse program through Clarion Hotel, Thursday,
April 7
∑ 9:30 AM Depart from hotel
∑ 10:00 – 12:00 PM Passport to the Century Tour, in-depth
history of the Landmark District on the museum tram and entry into
two of the cottages.
∑ 12:00 PM Lunch, CJ’s @ Jekyll Marina
∑ 1:00 – 2:30 PM Dolphin Tour departs for 90 minute
boat cruise. (Times may change – currently offered at 1, 3
& 5: PM.)
∑ 2:30 PM Return to hotel
∑ $75 per person, depending on number of people for transportation
Werner Kralick made a motion to include spouse program; Tim Beale
seconded the motion. Board Members voted to include program.
Golf
William White reported cost $55 per person, tee times for 30 people.
GVMA will charge $65 per person, 7 tee times.
Conference Registration
Board Members discussed importance of paying registration fee on-line
with credit card.
Action Item: Mark Heffley will check with his contact.
Action Item: Jerry McGukin will look into Pay Pal.
Meals
Tim Beale reported Low Country Boil, Thursday, April 7 will cost
$15 per person.
Caterer will need number of people, location of dinner and menu
preferences.
Action Item: Contact vendor and tentatively reserve dinner
for Thursday, April 7 for 175 people
2006 Conference Location
Werner Kralick requested returning to Calloway Gardens in 2006.
Mark Heffley made a motion; Ricky Dockery seconded the motion. Board
Members voted to host 2006 conference at Calloway Gardens.
2005 Speakers and Schedule
Board Members discussed possible speakers and topics for conference.
Suggestions include:
• Don Garner Savannah Parks & Trees Honorarium Speaker
• Possible panel session with GTC and GP personnel
• Possible skit - herbicide issues/presenting a good public
image
• Dupont Representative to discuss recent study/survey on
limb growth
• Update on DOT permit process
• Hispanic utility workforce
• Fire ants/insects
• Kudzu control
• Pole treatment, Langdale
• Chuck Levell, possible keynote speaker
Action Item: Mark Dennis will check with Langdale for
possible speaker on pole treatment.
Action Item: John Raese will send Dupont report on limb growth
to Board Members.
Action Item: Dan McMillan will check on speaker
from South Carolina and give name to Darrell Russell.
Action Item: Darrell Russell will check with Chuck Levell
as possible keynote speaker.
Board Members will decide on speakers and times at the next meeting.
Mark Heffley gave Board Members 2005 Jekyll Island Committee Assignment
sheet.
