President Beale opened
the meeting with discussion of 2002 GVMA Annual Meeting/Conference.
Tim Beale reported
on hotel reservations to date:
81 rooms booked for Wednesday, April 10
87 rooms booked for Thursday, April 11
Tim Beale requested
Board Members turn in speaker biographies for introductions at conference.
Jimmy Etheridge reported Dr. Coder confirmed request to speak at
conference on the new ISA appraisal guide. Jimmy Etheridge will
have copies of the new ISA Tree Appraisal and study guide for sale
at the conference.
Board Members made
corrections to conference agenda:
Doug Jones will speak
on pesticide use/inspections, not Paul Guillebeau
Ray Dorsey will report on DOT ROW Vegetation Management Policy,
Thursday from 8:30 – 9:00 AM
Jennifer DuBose will introduce GVMA website Thursday, 11:30 –
11:45 AM, instead of Wednesday.
Tim Murphy
reported the A/V equipment for conference is in order. Beth Murdock
will bring data projector.
Jimmy Etheridge reported
ISA will award 6.75 CEUs for attending conference:
Day one: 4 hours
Day two: 2.75 hours
Dan McMillan reported
South Carolina will award 4 hours CEUs for attending conference.
Jimmy Etheridge reported 10 registrations for ISA Certified Arborist
Exam to date.
Tim Beale reported cost of tables and chairs for Low Country Boil
at approximately $650.00.
Tim Beale reported cost of portable restrooms for Plant McIntosh
field tour at $55.00.
Dan McMillan reported on Exhibitors/Sponsors registration to date:
8 paid registrations/exhibitors

Tim Beale discussed
the possibility of a GVMA exhibitor booth for non-profit organizations
to give out flyers, brochures, etc.
Mark Heffley gave
Board Members a copy of Conference Evaluation Form for review.
Board Members discussed golf shirts to be given out as registration
gifts.

to Tim Beale, Savannah Electric; invoice will be sent to Darrell
Russell.
Doug Jones reported on the Department of Agriculture’s response
to EPA label requirements. The EPA is working to correct problems
with label terminology. The EPA’s deadline for comments is
April 15.
Mark Hefley reported
the GVMA website is now accessible, and requested Board Members
to send biographies for website.
Tim Murphy told Board
Members about an Herbicide Action course offered by Purdue University,
taught by David Bridges. Murphy reported the three-day course focuses
on brush and ROW Management, and is geared toward supervisors. Bridges
may be willing to offer course in Georgia on a regional basis, which
GVMA could sponsor. Participants receive a certificate of completion.
Tim Beale suggested sponsoring the course prior to the 2003 GVMA
Conference.
Dan McMillan reported
UAP Timberland’s one-day ROW School (in conjunction with Virginia
Electric Utilities) was a success.
Ray Dorsey reported on issues concerning the DOT ROW Vegetation
Management Policy:
· Specify spot treatment applications for restricted use
herbicides
· Selected treatment only; no broadcast applications for
restricted use herbicides
· 48-hour notification
· Under 45 feet; no mitigation plans required, just annual
schedule
· Spot applications should be narrowed down to specifics
and reported
Ray Dorsey plans to send an e-mail to address questions and ambiguities,
and a list of herbicides/active ingredients.
The next Board of
Directors Meeting will be the Business Meeting at 2002 GVMA Conference
in Savannah, April 12, 2002, at 11:45 AM.
